About In This Moment

In This Moment is a rock band from Los Angeles, California that was formed by singer Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth in 2005. The band was originally known as Dying Star, but after the band grew unhappy with their musical direction, the band changed their name to In This Moment. And after a period of lineup changes, the band began it’s meteoric rise to success.

Influence and Style

The band has been described as alternative metal, metalcore, hard rock, melodic metalcore, and gothic metal at various stages of their career. The band’s debut album and their third album were both labeled as metal core, while the second album was less intense and moved towards a more alternative metal sound. This led to the band’s current identity of using elements of various genres to create a unique blend all their own.

But the band has cited Pantera, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Whitesnake, Ratt, Mötley Crüe, Deftones, Nirvana, Dead Can Dance, and M83 as their influences.

Awards and Recognition

The band has been repeatedly nominated for musical awards over their career. This includes two nominations for Alternative Press Music Awards for Best Hard Rock Artist and Best Live Band in 2017. It also includes a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for “The In-Between” in 2021.

But the band is no stranger to winning, as Maria Brink won Rock Goddess of the Year in 2013 and 2015 from Loudwire Music Awards as well as a Revolver Golden God Award for Hottest Chick in Metal in 2010.
